What is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual direction is an ancient practice with roots in many spiritual traditions. In a nutshell, spiritual direction is a supportive, confidential relationship where a spiritual director comes alongside someone on their spiritual journey to listen and guide in the direction that the individual's soul feels tugged. Many who arrive in Spiritual Direction are deconstructing religion. They may feel stressed out and burned out; struggling with a loud mind or a harsh inner critic that says "you're not enough." They may also be wrestling with big questions about their spiritual beliefs, purpose in life, or identity and may walk with a spiritual limp after years of religious shame, church hurt, or trauma. They often feel constrained, disconnected, spiritually lonely, and unsure of a way forward.
My role as a trauma-informed spiritual director is to come alongside you; cultivating safety & connection and guiding you toward your own inner light- however you identify that. I take a deeply affirming, person centered approach; offering sessions through a trauma-focused lens and rooted in evidence-based methods including Somatic Internal Family Systems (IFS) which supports the integration of mind, body, and soul. Sessions are slow, grounding, and filled with curious questions, sacred pauses, and ah-ha moments as you reconnect with the wisdom within.
What Spiritual Direction is NOT:
While Spiritual Direction can feel therapeutic in nature, it is not therapy. Therapy often focuses on changing behaviors, healing past experiences, fixing relationships with others, and treating mental illnesses. Spiritual direction sessions focus on the present moment and one's current relationship between god and self. As a trauma informed director, I am able to gently hold what feels hard, complicated, or messy as you explore your spirituality and help you remain grounded in the present moment as needed, but I am unable to assess, diagnose, or treat mental health conditions.
Spiritual Direction, contrary to what the name suggests, is also different from coaching. As a spiritual director, I trust that you hold all of the light and wisdom that you need for your journey. My role is to listen deeply, follow the rabbit hole all the way down, and help you connect with those inner resources. I believe that any change you want to see in your life will come when you feel seen, heard, understood, and safe enough to move forward in the direction that you choose.

My Approach
01
100% Affirming
My overall approach is person-centered which holds empathy, non-judgment, and authenticity as essential elements for growth, healing, & positive change.
As an autistic member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I welcome all into this space, whoever you are, wherever you come, and whatever you carry.
03
Integrative
Oftentimes, religious shame and trauma disconnects us from the body, our emotions, and what we truly want in life. Part of the deconstruction process includes reintegrating mind, body, and spirit and coming back to your true self.
This is why I incorporate approaches that support somatic (body) awareness and creative, non-verbal expression. You're encouraged to bring a journal, pen, and a few colors to your sessions as well any fidgets that would support your authentic you.
02
Trauma Focused
I have 5 years of training and experience in trauma focused work as well as a lifetime of lived experience with CPTSD. I am skillfully attuned to how my word choices, questions, body language, pace, and atmosphere can soothe or activate a sensitive nervous system. I take great care to help you feel grounded and supported in sessions and believe that "slow is fast" when doing this work.
04
Evidence Based
My approach is deeply rooted in evidence-based practices and theories. I have studied trauma, attachment theories, human growth and development, and the nervous systems. I am also trained in Spiritual Direction, Internal Family Systems, Expressive Arts, Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga and Mindfulness (TCTSY), and more.
Integrating spiritual direction with research-supported approaches means that sessions are safe and effective in helping you release religious shame and embrace your authentic self.
